Unable to connect Gmail? Here's how to handle Google’s verification prompts.
When you add or reconnect a Gmail account in Edison Mail, Google may ask you to verify your identity before allowing access. You might see a passkey request, a prompt to approve the sign-in on another device, or instructions to retrieve a security code from your device’s settings.
If you cannot complete that verification, the account setup cannot finish—even if your email address and password are correct.
Why does this happen?
Google chooses the verification steps based on your account’s security settings and the sign-in attempt. Additional checks may appear when you use a new device or when Google detects activity it considers unusual.
Our support team has observed this behavior among some users who have not enabled 2-Step Verification. Enabling it can help by setting up additional ways to verify your identity, although it does not guarantee immediate access.
What to try first
If Google asks for a passkey you cannot use, select “Try another way,” if available. Choose a verification method you can access and follow the instructions on Google’s screen.
The options may include approving a Google prompt, entering an authenticator code, or receiving a code by text message. Not every method is available for every account.
How to enable 2-Step Verification
If you can sign in to your Google Account through a web browser:
1. Open https://myaccount.google.com.
2. Select “Security & sign-in.”
3. Under “How you sign in to Google,” select “2-Step Verification.”
4. Follow the instructions to enable it and set up your verification methods.
5. Return to Edison Mail.
6. Add your account using the “Google” option and complete Google’s sign-in and verification screens.

You do not need to create an app password to add Gmail through Edison Mail’s “Google” option.
What if Google asks me to wait?
Google may temporarily restrict a sign-in or delay account recovery for security reasons. Follow any instructions or waiting period displayed on the screen.
There is no single waiting period that applies to every account. Enabling 2-Step Verification does not bypass an existing restriction, and newly added verification methods may take time to become trusted.
When trying again, use a device and internet connection you normally use for that Google Account. Edison Mail cannot approve Google’s identity checks or shorten its security waiting period.
What if I cannot access my Google Account at all?
Use Google’s account recovery page:

If you use a Google Workspace account through your workplace or school, contact your administrator if you cannot enable 2-Step Verification or use the verification methods offered.
